The big question is, has the iPhone 8 Plus lost it place totally in the smartphone market? No straight answer to that. Apple’s iPhone 8 Plus launched on September 2017 is still on sale in 2020 but you ask, should you still get it?
Apple has not backed out in making and releasing updates on the iPhone 8 Plus, recently it got the iOS 13.4.1 giving it a modern look, more security, more optimization, bug fixes and lot. To add to it, apps like Netflix, Chrome, Gmail, and Spotify are now fully stable on the device. The iPhone 8 Plus overall has a decent finishing though it’s much a look-alike of its predecessor, iPhone 7 Plus. Through a close examination, the difference is just the glass back on the 8 Plus.
Apple iPhone is still a good pick in the market with a budget of $300 as at when this post was written though we see competition from other companies making it look like its outdated.

Design and Display
After seeing the newly launched smartphones in 2020, iPhone 8 Plus kinda look outdated. It has button in front, huge bezels, no card slot and IPS LCD screen display. All these are no longer trending but there’s something awesome on the design. The clean finishing of the gorilla glass front and back. It supports wireless charging and no headphone jack which is not in some 2020 phones.
Performance and Battery
One of the suggested reasons to get an iPhone 8 plus in 2020 is the performance, it is still a machine. With apples A11 bionic chip together with the recent iPhone 8 plus update to iOS 13.4.1, the performance is smooth.
At a point, while I was using Instagram on the iPhone 8 plus, I got a bit crash whenever I tap on my profile. It goes black after then, but I don’t know why, whether it’s from the app or iOS 13.4.1 update. Hopefully, they fix that.
In terms of battery health, Apple is very good at battery optimization and this is where they beat other smartphone brands. My iPhone 8 Plus’s 2691mAh battery at 91% battery health still stays longer than Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus 3500mAh battery. That is the power of battery optimization on the iPhone 8 Plus.
The Camera of iPhone 8 Plus
Sure, everyone wants a device with a good camera and I think that’s why you want to buy this phone now, lol. I can say it boldly, that the iPhone 8 plus camera is still trending. Getting better after each update from Apple. This is a good reason to get Apple’s 8 Plus at its price now.
Reasons to NOT buy the iPhone 8 Plus in 2020
- It has a front button
- No SD Card slot
- Lesser battery capacity
- small screen display
- Big screen bezels
- No Radio
- No Face ID
Reasons to buy the iPhone 8 Plus in 2020
- Good camera
- Fast Bluetooth connection
- Smooth screen
- Smooth body
- Dust and water resistant
- Still receives updates from Apple
Seems like the reasons to NOT buy is higher than the buying reasons. It doesn’t matter, it depends on what you want and what you can without. I say, YES go get it!
