Oppo Reno5 5G Review: Affordable Flagship Device

oppo reno5 5g review

Oppo announced Reno5 5G on the 10th of December 2020 with some brilliant features to look at. Nonetheless, it’s an affordable flagship device, second to the Oppo Reno5 Pro 5G. The Oppo Reno5 5G is a mouth full but will it cut? Oppo, Vivo, Oneplus, and Realme are all owned by the same company, but have not really gotten a foothold on the African market but have a strong showing in Asia. Oppo devices will have to offer good value to undo the stranglehold of Infinix and Tecno. The Oppo Reno5 5G is proving more than a handful.

Design And Display

The design seems quite business-like. The camera housing is to the right of the phone’s back. The power button is to the upper right and to the left are the volume rockers. The 3.5mm jack, speaker, and Type-C port are all at the bottom. The metal frame adds a premium touch to this device. The device uses the hole-punch design.

The display is a beauty to behold. The AMOLED display is just great to have at this price and gives vivid and punchy colors that an LCD display lacks. Peak brightness on auto mode is well over 500nits which is great for outdoor use. The display is just great.

Oppo Reno5 5G Camera

The main camera features a 64mp shooter which can do 4k@30fps, has EIS and HDR all wrapped in one. The other lenses offer 8mp(ultrawide), 2mp(macro), 2mp(depth). The images are sharp and leave little room for complaint as long as you don’t zoom too much you are good to go.

The selfie camera is a 32mp shooter and gives clear selfie shots as well so you can always be that person that is looking for a pretext to raise his phone up for a shot.

Battery And Performace

Who knew the day would come when a 4300mAh battery would not be seen as beefy. Despite not hitting the 5000mAh mark, believe me, the battery still impresses. When dead though the Oppo Reno5 5G recharges at speeds that resemble a resurrection. The hefty 65watts charger pumps the battery from 0-100% in a mere 40mins, now that’s something.

The Snapdragon 765G 5G is a powerful chipset and drives this device on at almost breakneck speed. Bring it on. The 7nm process means less energy expended doing work so your device won’t heat up a lot.

Connectivity

The Oppo Reno5 5G as the name suggests has 5G connectivity. It also has the 3G & 4G bands of the local network providers so browsing is no problem. The remaining standard features like Bluetooth, WiFi, GPS, etc are in place.

Price And Availability

The Oppo Reno5 5G is priced at about $490. This device may be available on online outlets like Jumia & Konga.

Verdict

There is no doubt in the ability of the Reno5 5G to perform I mean it has a great display, a good chipset, and that Super VOOC charger. The only downside is how highly priced it is, similar devices like Redmi Note 10 Pro and the Samsung Galaxy A72 are priced lower, with this much competition pricing can be a bottleneck. But if your pockets are deep enough this device is a great pick.
